Through it all, you never left my side 
No matter what, you’re always standing by 
With your goodness and a smile— 
For as long as I can remember... 
My whole life. 
And it escapes me how you can do so, 
Giving so willingly and earnestly of yourself 
All the time... unconditionally. 
Sometimes, I guess my inability 
To understand 
The reasons for your wholeheartedness 
Leaves me frustrated... 
But most times, although I may not show it, 
I’m truly thankful 
For having you in my life. 
For being there, for understanding, 
For your patience and compassion... 
I never would have made it this far 
If you had ever given up on me. 
I often wonder if I’m doing my part, 
Fulfilling my role as your friend as well? 
I’ve never really thought about it until now... 
But I’d be so lost if you left me. 
So, I guess you don’t need a reason to be wonderful... 
Just as I don’t need a reason to not to believe 
In the promise in your smiles.
