I've seen the tortured depths of your secret world…

Reflected in your weary eyes

All the pain you chose to hide away from everyone

Blazed before me like a fire

In that one time-frozen moment

When all you held onto was stripped away

And you broke down in my arms

And cried…

I never expected to find so much suffering

Or so much feeling inside of you…

You, who had always been the strongest of us

You, who had seemed invincible

And it tore at me so much to see you hurting like that

I wanted so badly to ease away the anguish in your heart,

To hold you until the storm within you abated

To let you know everything would be all right…

But even then, you tried to push me away

Even when you saw the light of realization shining in my face

Until then, I never imagined there was so much more to you

But for the first time,

You became real to me and I finally understood you

And it was then that I realized that you were just like me…

You, too, were fallible and vulnerable

You weren't as closed off from the world as you wanted to be

… And it scared you…

You didn't want to have to risk yourself

… And be wounded…

In a sense far worse than anything physical

… But you were…

So you hid behind an obsidian mask of stoic indifference

Pretending to be numb

And shied away from me much like everyone else…

You tried so hard to make that distance, knowing still it was in vain

For unlike everyone else, I did get to see behind that mask

And I say in all sincerity that I don't mind

That you aren't perfect

In fact, for what I saw through that saddened haze of tears

That night you opened up to me…

When I looked into your grief-stricken eyes

And straight down into your soul

It was then that I realized that…

…I love you…
